CNC Oscillating Knife for Foam, Rubber, Leather and Cardboard

A CNC oscillating knife is designed for precise cutting of soft and flexible materials. The blade moves rapidly up and down while the CNC machine guides it along the programmed cutting path.

Unlike a milling cutter, an oscillating knife separates the material without removing it as chips. This can provide clean edges, less waste and a cleaner working environment.

Suitable materials

Depending on the blade and tool configuration, an oscillating knife can process:

  • technical foam,

  • rubber and gasket materials,

  • leather and synthetic leather,

  • cardboard and corrugated board,

  • textiles and felt,

  • soft plastics,

  • insulation and packaging materials.

Suitability depends on the thickness, density and structure of the material. We therefore recommend carrying out a test cut before production.

Main benefits

  • accurate and repeatable cutting,

  • little or no chip formation,

  • clean edges without heat-affected areas,

  • production of complex shapes,

  • suitability for one-off and repetitive production,

  • efficient use of material.

Milling cutter or oscillating knife?

A milling cutter is suitable for rigid materials and machining to a defined depth. An oscillating knife is better for flexible materials that could tear, wrap around a rotary tool or produce excessive waste during milling.

Depending on its construction and control system, a CNC router can be equipped with both a spindle and an oscillating knife. Before ordering, send us a sample or specification of the material, its thickness and the required cutting shape.
