CNC Machine Lubrication and Maintenance Guide

Regular cleaning and lubrication reduce wear on linear guides, bearings, ball screws and other moving components. The exact procedure and maintenance interval must be adapted to the machine model, operating hours and working environment.

Daily inspection

After machining, remove dust and chips from the working area, guides and moving components. Check that accumulated contamination is not restricting movement or damaging the seals on the linear bearings.

Regular cleaning is especially important when machining wood and MDF. Fine dust can mix with lubricant and form an abrasive layer.

Linear guides and ball screws

Clean the guides with a suitable lint-free cloth before applying lubricant. Never apply fresh lubricant directly over a heavy layer of dust and contamination.

A suitable protective oil may be used on exposed metal surfaces. Standard multipurpose WD-40 should not be treated as a replacement for long-term machine lubricant.

Automatic lubrication system

Regularly check:

  • the oil level in the reservoir,

  • lubrication lines and fittings,

  • correct pump operation,

  • damaged or leaking hoses,

  • whether lubricant reaches every lubrication point.

We use oils suitable for the particular system, including PP90 in selected automatic lubrication systems. Do not mix different oils without confirming their compatibility.

Manually lubricated machines

Machines without automatic lubrication require periodic manual lubrication of the bearings, ball-nut assemblies and other designated points. Suitable grease may include MOGUL LA 2 or Liton LT 2EP when approved for the relevant component.

How often should maintenance be carried out?

The interval depends on operating hours, dust and workload. In demanding woodworking environments, inspect the guides and lubrication system at least once a month.
